A tragic tale from Greek mythology: Sisyphus, who had just completed his Master’s degree in Data Science, had tricked the gods one too many times. As punishment, they condemned him to an eternity of repetitive tasks. Every month Sisyphus was forced to retrain, compare, and deploy a new machine learning model on refreshed data from his company. If only he had access to IBM Watson® Studio’s Orchestration Flow beta release, he could have saved himself an eternity of manually repeating AI lifecycle tasks and forever changed the course of Greek mythology.
Introducing AutoAI Time Series
Time series data are ubiquitous in business, industrial, and data science applications but dealing with these types of data is often more difficult. Let’s take for example tracking of economic activity trends, forecasting sales at a retail location, or predicting the course a disease might take — if a dataset contains a temporal component, more advanced and tailored data handling, statistical, and machine learning modeling techniques are required. Given both this prevalence and complexity, the IBM Watson® Machine Learning team is proud to introduce the beta version of AutoAI Time Series.
If you’ve ever spoken to a data scientist / machine learning practitioner (or are one yourself) at one point or another, you have probably had a conversation that sounded eerily similar to this:
“So, what do you do?”
“I’m a data scientist.”
“That sounds fun…What does that mean?”
“I apply rigorous mathematical and statistical analyses to make predictions learned from past data on new observations!”
“Cool! So, what’s a typical day like?”
“Well… I spend most of my time searching for, cleaning, and processing data files..”
It’s one of the most famous codes of conduct: “Magicians never reveal their secrets.” But there are rare moments when an audience is so wowed, so struck by the ‘what just happened’ feeling that it would be almost cruel not to let them in on the secret.
At IBM Watson® Machine Learning, we couldn’t help but show you how we pulled the rabbit pipeline out of the magical data hat, and we are proud to announce the General Availability of the AutoAI Notebooks feature.
